WE INDIANS are obsessed with practices which persist for a longer period without weighing the necessity of its existence. These practices become norm and then one has to fight to get rid of it. While corporal punishment is banned under the Right to Education Act, schools feel that it is their duty to use it in the harshest possible way to create a genius.

Cases related to the honour killing often ends in the same court and hence it results in only delays. These cases should be tried in fast track courts considering the gravity of the crime. Faster and efficient disposal of the case would discourage people from committing such crimes by invoking the fear of law. There is no other way to make people respect of law. The will send a message to those who tacitly support honour killings and to the potential killers as well.
